How to Become Funny
Learning how to become funny is very important people skill. Most folks don t realize how important this is to succeed in life. In reality, everybody wants to convince you that only the truly funny individuals perfect their witty craft to the top of the funny meter. And being funny really matters. If you truly understand how to get people to laugh, then you will be much more successful.
There are many ways to improve your ability to become funny on a daily basis. Some methods will require you to pay money while other methods can be done with nothing more than a bit of time and determination. The trick is to find the exact routines that work best for you. For example, if it takes you five minutes to prepare a joke, and then you spend an additional five minutes performing your jokes, you will be less funny than someone who spends five minutes perfecting one joke and performing exactly the same routine. But if you perfect your routines, you will be funnier.
Another thing to look at when thinking about the art of being funny is that it’s not just pure ability. Humor is about combining words and gestures to elicit a response from your audience. There is much more to being funny than having the exact right words and gestures to use at the right time. A person can get away with a few offensive jokes for a while but if you continue to expose your audiences to these offensive statements, you will begin to lose your comedic credibility.
Incongruities are another great way to bring humor into your comedy routine. Incongruity occurs when two or more statements are made that are completely different in meaning, but do have one or similar meanings. For example, it is perfectly acceptable to say, “I’m so smart,” but “You’re so stupid,” or “I’m such a genius.” The incongruity here lies in the fact that the two words have entirely different connotations. When used together, the outcome has a profound effect on the quality of humor that can be generated, both in the comedian and the audience.
The last funny thing to keep in mind is that there is always the possibility of turning something funny into something even more offensive. If you choose to tell jokes that contain racial or sexual innuendos, you may find that people begin to associate you with behavior that you would find offensive. This can result in a loss of comedy audiences, or possible ostracization from your social circle. Comedy, like anything else, can be lost in translation once it is taken too far. In other words, if you decide to take offensive jibes to a social level, you must think through the consequences of that decision before you go too far.
Becoming funny takes time and effort. Don’t let yourself be fooled by those who claim to have the answer to everything. Those individuals only seem to appear on television or in person as extremely funny people because they are incredibly familiar with the techniques of making people laugh. They have also likely spent a great deal of their time honing their technique. Unfortunately, that knowledge is not available to everyone, leaving those who do possess it with the burden of trying to figure out how to apply that knowledge to create funny things.
